Abstract

A study is presented to determine the main causes for the non-sustainability of the Chemical Industry in Cuba. It starts from the analysis of the decrease of final quality effects, the system stability  and  the  aptitude  of  the  process.  By  means  of  valuing  the  following  indicators:  low availability, reliability of Cuban industry, the ineffectiveness of business management, the technological obsolescence and poor maintenance practices. A methodology was proposed to eliminate and reduce the critical causes, specifically, those that affect the maintenance activity, so as to identify the critical equipment and systems. Also, evaluate its cycle of life and establishes the hierarchy, to facilitate the entrepreneur to establish a priority order according to risks, failures, etc., for decision making. The maintenance practices are analyzed and the improvement proposals are made, starting from the results obtained, as well as the maintenance strategies to be implemented. Once the implementation begins, monitoring and adjustments of the improvements are made, allowing improving the availability, reliability and maintainability of the industry and its productive sustainability.
