Main Article Content
Abstract
Periodontal disease is the most prevalent pathology in humans. Gingivitis is the mildest form of
periodontal diseases. It is an inflammatory condition caused mainly by bacterial plaque accumulated on the teeth. The present work aims to characterize chronic gingivitis in adolescents from José Martí Secondary School, belonging to Pablo Agüero Guedes Clinic, Caibarién, Villa Clara, from May 2019 to May 2020. A correlational descriptive study was carried out Cross-sectional, the study population was the totality of those enrolled in this course and the sample was obtained by non-probabilistic intentional sampling. As a result, a greater number of adolescents with gingivitis than healthy ones was evidenced, as well as, the moderate form was predominant. The risk factor that predominated was smoking and, among the influential, poor oral hygiene. In this study, it was evidenced that more than half of the adolescents studied had chronic gingivitis, predominantly its moderate form, and poor oral hygiene was
strongly associated etiological factor.
