Abstract





 


A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in the health area of Marta Abreu educational clinic, in the period from September 2020 to January 2021.In order to determine factors that affect the alterations in the perception of taste and presence of oral manifestations that could be present in patients who have become ill with COVID-19.It was carried out in two phases, firstly with 32 patients who all had in common the loss of taste perception and later with 29 patients belonging to the Battle of Santa Clara Industrial Military Company, a work center framed in the health area. In the first cases, the personalied survey was applied at the patients home with the participation of the industry doctor. The evaluated sample was 61 patients out of a total of 113 who had become ill. The results obtained allowed knowing the impact of COVID-19 in oral health, which was a novelty for all professionals in the branch, with dysgeusia being the most frequent alteration, factors such as age, smoking and drug use sharpen the symptom, loss of taste can be sudden or triggered by the treatment protocol for the disease, the umami flavor is the least identified, the taste recovers after


10-12 days and the COVID-19 leaves sequelae in the oral cavity.
